Everyone is familiar with the how-to of creating a generic professional resume since high school English class. If everyone has the same general knowledge, how can you stand out to a future employer? Here are four random resume tips for public relations job applications that can help you get noticed!

Include Relevant Coursework

While you should know that you must tailor your resume to the specific organization or job, you should also know to include college classes relevant to the position. If the job title includes a significant amount of copyediting, then you can add COMM332: News Editing for Public Relations to your experience section. Also, make sure you express your technological knowledge and skills by adding your experience with certain software and editing platforms to your resume.

Add Your Portfolio or LinkedIn Profile to Your Contact Info

Everyone includes their email, phone number and address in their resume's contact information. Stand out by adding your professional profiles and/or your portfolio! If you are applying online, make sure you hyperlink your profiles and portfolio for direct access.

Bullet Your Job Responsibilities and Accomplishments

Make sure you describe the important details of previous and current jobs and positions on your resume. Use short phrases and bullet points rather than full sentences to add more description of your experience to the section.

Use Color!

For a public relations resume, it's important to add your own aesthetic! You are applying for a position that requires creativity, so make sure you show that with a pop of color and a fun yet practical font for your headings.

These are only a few random resume tips that I have learned from a few adults with successful careers in media. Make sure you do extra research and talk to PR professionals to find out what could make your resume stand out even more and get you the position you desire!
